Spiritual Formation

St. Eugene School holds to a Christian belief that people are not only body but spirit as well. The spirit must be fed and nurtured by word and good deeds. In an effort to bring about young men and women who uphold values, we work to encourage this spiritual side. This includes projects that allow our students to see the needs of those less fortunate or experience situations outside of their normal lifestyle. We hope these moments will create a spiritual sensibility and empathy to others in need.

Sacraments

Children of the Catholic faith are offered the opportunity to receive their First Communion and First Confession through religious instruction by a designated teacher. It is a year-long course with special classes for First Communion taking place after regular school hours.

Mass

Weekly Masses are served by our students in grades 5-8. They actively participate in the readings, and petitions. Our other liturgy activities include retreat, Advent and Lent prayers, and Stations of the Cross led by our 8th graders.

Retreat

Toward the end of their middle school experience, the 8th grade students participate in a mandatory annual retreat. The retreat is a time for students to reflect, meditate, and grow in their relationship with God. It is also a time for them to prepare for the next journey in their educational endeavors.

Religion Curriculum

Catholic Identity and faith formation are integrated throughout our curriculum.  Annual faculty workshops and retreats allow our teachers to enhance their knowledge of the Catholic Doctrine. By modeling and encouraging participation from our school parents in school activities, we integrate faith formation throughout our school and community.  In developing the school’s efforts to ensure St. Eugene School’s Catholic Identity, the faculty utilizes Catholic textbooks in grades TK through eighth that are consistent with the Archdiocesan Standards:

  • Church Structure and History
  • Creed
  • Liturgy
  • Morality
  • Prayer
  • Sacraments

Our religion curriculum is evident in student work, in all classrooms and events, such as May Crowning, Advent services, October Rosaries, Stations of the Cross, and Catholic Schools Week activities. Students are encouraged and given multiple opportunities to live out the Gospel through school activities and mission projects, such as St. Vincent de Paul food collections, Holy Childhood activities, and local and global charity projects. Through our ACRE results, we have discovered that our school has maintained a strong Catholic Identity. By analyzing this data, we are able to measure the depth of knowledge in principles of our Catholic faith.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake."
- Psalm 23:1-3
